Tinnitus and chronic pain
The majority of tinnitus cases have no known physical cause.
Instead they function much like chronic pain does where a small, normally unnoticeable, signal has become amplified by brain pathways that have been switched on ‘by mistake’.
Reducing the activity of these pathways is the solution for both conditions.
This is what drugs or brain training programmes like the Lightning Process can achieve.
Stress helps further amplify those pathways, but unfortunately having pain or tinnitus naturally makes us stressed. This creates a self perpetuating vicious circle that we need to break free of.
This brilliant video from an Australian Pain Service explains it well.
