Panic
attacks.
Paul
consulted us with a year long history of panic attacks which developed
after a short plane journey, in which he had felt a bit unwell.
Since then he had been experiencing panic attacks both in planes
and in all sorts of different sitautions like trains, crowds, meetings,
and even supermarket queues. He sent us this note after his first
hour long session. It's quite typical of the feedback we get working
with these kinds of problems.
Dear Phil,
Just a little note to give you feedback after our session this afternoon.
Firstly I felt completely relaxed about getting on the tube and
was able to get on one of the busier middle carriages without any
hesitation. The tube was quite busy but at no point did I feel panicky.
My mind was focused on other areas like reading the advertisements
and thinking about what I was going to do later as opposed to the
usual fear about the train stopping in a tunnel and losing control.
At times my mind was saying that I shouldn't be comfortable with
this but these thoughts quickly went as I felt in control of my
breathing and the general situation.
The train home was very busy as the train beforehand was cancelled.
This would have been a classic panic situation previously and although
for the early part of the journey Iwas a bit tense, my breathing
and nerves did not run out of control and when I imagined the things
I had learnt during our session the whole situation became more
lighthearted in my mind.
Overall I feel alot more relaxed about things and the tension Iusually
get in my upper chest and throat after these types of journeys has
gone. I can now look forward to concentrating on my work and social
life instead of worrying what the journey to work will be like in
the morning.
I feel that over the coming weeks my confidence in the train travel
and the other areas we discussed will quickly increase and hopefully
I can put this difficulty that I have had for a year to bed once
and for all. If for any reason I feel that I may need another session
I will be in touch.
Many Thanks
Paul
